When asked to go for a run, the first excuse one comes up with is, that they’ve got a bad knee or are overweight.
Well, it may surprise you, but THAT is exactly why you should actually take up running.
Of course, you need to take it slow in the beginning; a brisk walk, jog and then speed up to a run.
The pace depends on the individual.
Running actually helps lubricate the joints and that is exactly what the knees want – lubrication. Being overweight is one very good reason to start running – one of the best ways to shed excess weight.
I hear of people paying hefty sums to psychologists and spend endless hours sitting through sessions, trying to figure out a way to get over depression and anxiety issues.
Believe me, the surge of all the “happy” hormones like serotonin, dopamine and endorphins released into your bloodstream after a run, are no match to any medication you may be prescribed to take.
After a short thirty-minute jog or brisk walk, all these “magic” hormones are released into your body putting you on such a “high” you won’t believe it!

Endless dieting, keeping away from food we love to eat is torture.
My philosophy has always been: Eat less – move more.
Without a doubt, we should follow a healthy diet; we should consume more fruit, vegetables, fiber, cut down on white starches and drink lots and lots of water. These are the basics of a healthy diet and we all know that – all in moderation.
Running and especially power walking is said to be great for our hearts.
In fact researchers have confirmed the fact that walking briskly on a regular basis prolongs life.
Walk yourself to a healthier and longer life.
Running is one of the easiest and inexpensive ways to exercise – all you need is a good pair of running shoes.
A good idea is to go and get fitted at a good sports store where the staff is trained to advise you on the perfect shoe for your feet. Stores like Intersport, Cosmo sport, and Zakret, are the very best.
Shop around to get the best for less.
For the ladies, don’t forget to get a good-fitting sports bra – that is a must!
Another great reason to join the “runners club” is if you have issues with your blood pressure, circulation or cholesterol levels; there is no way you won’t regulate all by taking a brisk walk or jog around the block on a regular basis.
Register for races and follow a training plan.

The feeling of accomplishment – that of completing a race – is so rewarding.
Finally, indulge in a sports watch to track your runs.
My favorite is Garmin; they have such a huge selection and you’ll never wear another watch again.
Get into one of the weekly step challenges and compete with the whole Garmin community – it’s a very motivational group – you’ll love it.
Last but not least, you should always check with your medical advisor and get the green light before heading off on this life-changing journey.
Once you’re on your way, you will never look back; the benefits are unbelievable!
