You’ve finally made up your mind to visit Athens!
Congratulations!!!
Great idea!!!
So, have you decided where you’ll be staying?
Are you travelling with young children and need ideas on where to take them to have some fun?
Are you into shopping and eating out?
You’ll find all this information and much more right here!!!
Let’s start from the beginning …
Arrival at Athens International Airport – your driver Giannis is right there, ready to take you to your hotel. Moreover, Giannis specializes in conducting private tours and showing you the highlights of Athens and other areas you might want to visit.

If your stay in Athens is long enough for you to visit places of interest out of Athens, then my recommendation would certainly be … Delphi!!! The route is beautiful, it’s not too far away which means you won’t be in a vehicle for too long.

Nafplion and Corinth are also worth considering. Beauty meets history and these are the makings of the Greek culture.
ACCOMODATION
There are some amazing hotels in Athens! When we say 5stars… we mean 5 stars!!! Hospitality at the highest level!!!
My personal recommendation is … The Hyatt
The rooms are super comfortable and if you’re a family with children, the solution would be connecting rooms.
Another great, but more modest hotel would be Syngrou Fix .
This hotel is within walking distance of …. everything worth visiting in the center.

The Hyatt is a very short distance from the city center.
You can take the shuttle bus or taxis to visit the main attractions, go shopping in Ermou street and eat at the quaint tavernas or restaurants and cafes in Plaka.
Plaka is at the foot of the Acropolis hill so you can combine a visit to the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum on the same day.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP!
For more upscale shopping – designer stores and more elegant dining, Kolonaki is the place to visit.
Shopping Outlets to visit a bit of a drive out to Spata would be McArthur Glen. You’ll be able to do your shopping, have lunch, do more shopping and just spend the whole day there. You’ll find all your favourite brands there!!!
Spend an afternoon in Glyfada! This is the beautiful suburb near the coast. Great shopping, super restaurants and cafes too. Glyfada is about 20 km from the city centre. You can take the Tram from Syntagma Square and get off at Glyfada. A great family outing.
Take a taxi to Golden Hall if you’re looking for exclusive stores, activities for children; ice-skating and so much more!!!
WHAT ELSE TO DO IN SPATA APART FROM … SHOPPING
The Attica Zoo is very near so you can take the kids to see some exotic animals in their almost natural surroundings. Educational and if you love animals … you’ll definitely enjoy it.
WHAT TO SEE WHILE IN ATHENS
Arrange a City Tour with your private driver or do the city tour with one of the many travel agencies your hotel collaborates with.
My bet is that a private tour for 4 hours will cost you less than a group tour AND you’ll enjoy it more!!! If you feel you need a private guide, there are many at the Acropolis to show you around.

A visit to the Stavros Nearchos Foundation is an experience you should not miss. The kids will love it and you will enjoy the relaxation this beautiful place offers. Take a book and relax, have a snack and walk through this beautiful ‘park’.
WANT TO SET SAIL?
If you’re up to it and the weather is good, take the 3-island cruise to the Saronic Islands; Aegina – Poros and Hydra. This is a splendid way of seeing some islands to help you decide on your next visit …
