If you are looking for a cosmopolitan island where music and dancing, clubbing and drinking goes on till the morning hours, then keep away from Kalymnos! This is a different, unique island which you will either love and keep coming back to, or be bored stiff and take the next boat out, never looking back. However, I believe the former is closer to the truth for the majority of people who have visited this tiny island close to Rhodes and Kastelorizo.
As the boat docks at the port of Kalymnos, one can’t imagine how beautiful this small island of the Dodecanese is. All one sees is barren rock. You need to delve a little deeper to find the beauty of the island and meet the people who will make you feel most welcome.

This is the island where the art of sponge fishing has been handed down from generation to generation. The sea around Kalymnos is rich in sponges and it is a great skill diving deep into the sea and collecting them, treating them and making them suitable for use. It is a skill which has been taught from father to son for many years.
Sponges from Kalymnos are known to be the best quality and are not only sold locally but also exported to many countries around the world.
